Pianist Anthony Tobin

July tour of the Netherlands! 4 cities and a workshop in the Hague. I received a grant from the Iona Stichting for this project to perform a solo program and prepare for a Debussy tour with Dutch eurythmist Emilie van der Held and for a November 2010 tour with cello, speaker, and video.

I am developing a website, documentary film, and lecture recital about the role of light, sense of place, and visual stimuli in Claude Debussy's piano works. I interviewed pianists Daniel Pollack and Stewart Gordon about their perspectives on musical style and musicologists Roy Howat, James Briscoe, Marie Rolf, and Richard Langham Smith at the International Debussy Congress. During 2009 I interviewed Elliott Antokoletz and Austin Symphony Conductor Peter Bay. Bay's discussion and demonstration of elements of Impressionism in La Mer and singer Rose Taylor's performance of the song "Pan" from Chansons de Bilitis are very illuminating.

January/February 2010 I performed Debussy's four-hand work 6 Epigraphes antiques with Kiyoshi Tamagawa at Southwestern University as part of The Bilitis Project. Once funding is secured a documentary film will be released from the performances.
